Joose's Art
Joose prefers to let the canvas be part of the painting process. She often paints the images that reveal themselves through her imagination. She finds this process of discovery is more challenging than painting from a sketch or photograph because it requires her to engage the art in a conversation of sorts. But even in the painting of more typical subjects, she applies the brush stroke and color to capture the life within the subject matter. And in so doing, the result is made uncommonly beautiful because in some way it surpasses the mere ocular experience.
Figure drawing is something most artists constantly practice, including life-drawing and painting of the nude. From that comes the understanding of the human body and the challenge of portrait painting. That is one of Joose's favorite projects although it comes with its own set of challenges. Children are actually more difficult to paint than adults because their features are still small and soft. As adults we have bolder features: larger noses, deeper eyes, and more evident bone structure. But no matter who she paints, finding the joy within is her main goal. Her prices for portraits start at $150. To contact Joose about doing a portrait for you, please call or email for more info.
After taking a workshop held by Henry Stinson, a painter in the Russian Impressionist style, I decided to take on a series of simple still-life paintings done from the various stuffed toys I could gather. My earliest memories of my childhood were filled with my favorite stuffed toys, all of which have disappeared over the years. That gave me two ideas:
1) Clients would want their child's toys captured in a painting (8 x 10 oil painting of your child's toy is $125 and includes frame), and
2)The paintings of toys in general would be a source of children's art prints I could sell inexpensively ($15 and up depending upon size and whether it's printed on paper or canvas).
All prints in this section are from Joose's original art. The smaller prints are decorative prints perfect for framing. The larger prints are custom printed one at a time by a method using ink-jet technology, called giclee. Giclee - pronounced jee clay' - comes from a French word that means "little squirt". The high quality of the inks and the substrates (canvas or papers) used in giclees will stay true over the years without fading or changing color. This gives each customer the ability to order the size of the image needed for their home or office. We at Great Art & Frame stand behind all of our prints as being of the highest quality printed by a master printer with archival pigments on the best papers and canvas available.

Occasionally the right piece is not to be found, which is when we will custom make the art for the client. We start with what the client is working around which is usually fabric colors and decor style. We have them show us images that they like, but for some reason wouldn't work. We then incorporate those elements, whether style, size, or color, and create new art. And "Voila" they have what they were looking for!
